Colin Firth has spoken against the Weinstein Company and their plan to slice, dice and censor their Oscar winning hit, The King’s Speech, as a way to keep the “gravy train” rolling.
The LA Times reports that Harry Weinstein (Executive Producer and distributor of The King’s Speech ) wants to re-edit the flick as a way to boost revenue by making the movie “kiddie friendly.”
Weinstein has attributed the UK’s big boxoffice receipts to a “12 and over” rating — and has suggested that the relaxed ruling is good for families who want to see the film together.
“Families” is code for “we want to sell tickets to kids.”
UK’s The Guardian, however, reports that The King’s Speech lead actor thinks that censorship to make movies suitable for youngsters doesn’t necessarily make for good film-watching.
Firth said, “I don’t support it.” and “I think the film has its integrity as it stands.”
